Pre-university students’ conceptions regarding radiation and radioactivity in a medical context

In this study, the conceptions of pre-university level secondary students with respect to radiation and radioactivity were investigated. A literature review determined what was already known about school students’ that differ from scientific theory, regarding radioactivity. Next, 12 Dutch their teachers interviewed. Half student confirmed in interviews. The most persistent conception inability distinguish between irradiation contamination. All newly discovered conceptions, such as idea can exist independently source radiation, within a medical context. remarkable finding have full confidence professionals, while at same time they believe all imaging techniques are dangerous. It be concluded curricular developments changes teaching contexts lead concerning established topics. Knowledge these how change them might an important focus for teacher training, play role overcoming do not correspond prevailing theories and, time, may conceptions.
